Lincoln Memorial (Washington, DC)

In this first session, you will spend time discussing the Lincoln Memorial: its history, its symbolism, as well as how to bring a group of tourists through it.

I had a great time Saturday morning at the Lincoln Memorial. I've been telling a lot of people about it.
Noel Paige of UCTOURS & Mike Showalter of "TOUR THAT" knew a great deal about the Memorial - its architecture, the Lincoln sculpture, the symbolism of features such as the murals, and the shrine's importance in petitioning for rights of all kinds and in the Civil Rights Movement. The inscription where Martin Luther King spoke in 1963 is embarrassingly unidentifiable.
They communicated methods of how to target their knowledge imaginatively to clients. They covered the importance of relationships with any tour bus driver.
In fact I will be attending the Washington Area Guild meeting on Nov. 11 at their suggestion. My big concern is how to find clients. Maybe I'll get some advice at the meeting.
The instructors were very knowledgeable and personable. They did a great job of letting us know about what's involved in being a tour guide, how to approach it, and also gave us lots of great information about Lincoln and the Memorial.
The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most profound symbols of American Democracy in the world. It is a memorial that celebrates the tremendous accomplishments which have united the nation for more than two hundred years. In addition, it is a place where citizens assemble to draw attention to those causes and issues which continue to divide the country.

The spring tour guiding season is intense and can be lucrative for guides who are prepared. This 2 hour session is the first of six classes being held this winter. Each subsequent session will feature an in-depth look at one of the major memorials on the national mall. In this first session, you will spend time discussing the Lincoln Memorial: its history, its symbolism, as well as how to bring a group of tourists through it. You will also discuss the tour guiding season and be provided some basic information on becoming a licensed guide.
This will be the first of several 120-minute seminars on the major monuments and memorials in the city. The spring tourguide season is intense and can be lucrative for guides who are prepared. If you've ever considered picking up a second career as a tourguide or just learning more about our wonderful memorials and monuments, you might consider taking this kick-off seminar at the Lincoln Memorial. This session will be led by successful licensed Washington DC guides.
